Messaging, Media, and Motherhood - a Lecture and Exhibit Tour. Ann Lewis's talk will explore the various political strategies suffragists employed to convince elected officials and voting men to support and ultimately pass both the New York State suffrage referendums in 1917 and the 19th Amendment in 1920. Ann F. Lewis served as WHite House director of communications for President Bill Clinton from 1997-2000; senior advisor to the campaigns of Hillary Rodham CLinton for U.S. Senate in 2000 and 2006, and for president in 2008; and as co-chair of Jewish Women for Hillary in 2016. Following the talk, museum curators will offer a tour of the Votes for Women exhibition

Seasonal workers, sanctuary cities, legal issues and support services will be discussed by Samantha Howell, attorney and longtime member of the Board for the NY Civil Liberties Union; Dr. Dina Refki, Interim Co-Director of the Global Institute for Health and Human Rights at SUNY Albany; Terence Diggory, Co-coordinator of Saratoga Immigration Coalition.

check your local polling place Special Election in 107th NYS Assembly District. Two Rensselaer County legislators will run against each other in the April 24 special election to fill the vacant 107th Assembly District seat. Cindy Doran, D-Troy, and Jake Ashby, R-Schodack, will compete for the job vacated by Republican County Executive Steven McLaughlin of Troy when he won the countywide office. Doran will appear on the Democratic, Working Families and Women's Equality party lines. Ashby has the Republican, Independence and Conservative ballot positions. They were selected by the party committees. The special election in April is to fill the remaining months of the two-year term. The seat will be back on the ballot in November for a full two-year term.

Annual Meeting. Our speaker will be Jennifer Wilson, Program and Policy Director of the League of Women Voters of New York State. She serves as the League's in house lobbyist and policy advisor. Before coming to the League, Jennifer worked as Deputy Director for the Albany Office of US Senator Charles Schumer. In 2017 she was recognized as one of City & State's 40 under 40 Rising Stars in Albany. Those of us who have heard Jennifer's presentations can attest that she is a lively and engaging speaker.
