This award was instituted in 2009, soon after longtime LWVRC member Mary Stierer passed away. It is intended to honor Mary’s many contributions to her community and to our local league. It is also meant to recognize the service and leadership of current League members who have championed the principles of the League of Women Voters. The recipient receives a certificate, a special gift (e.g. a book or gift certificate), and 2 checks for $100 which s/he is expected to pass on to Mary’s favorite local organizations (the Troy Public Library, the Arts Center, the Rensselaer County Historical Society, or Literacy Volunteers of America).
