In Our Constitution

Article 1, Section 4 of the Constitution authorizes elections to be run by each state in the United States of America: “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators”

Amendment X states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Amendment XXVI states: Section 1.” The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.”  Section 2. “The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

New York State Election laws define how we hold our national, state and local elections.
