Join us for a thought provoking analysis of Martin Luther King Jr.'s struggle for black voting rights and a lively discussion with educators & community members to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the challenges he faced in making the controversial and consequential decisions that shaped the Civil Rights Era.
Facilitated by teachers Sean Fitzsimons of Albany High School and Matthew Pinchinat of Guilderland High School, the program is a case-study approach for education, making a more relevant and effective experience for students, teachers and participants of all ages and across a range of subjects. It presents
a unique opportunity to help reverse the broad decline in civic engagement and civic education in the United States.
The facilitators' brief video introduction and explanation of the program can be viewed at tinyurl.com/MLKCivilRightsDiscussion.
Participants will receive a packet of readings before the meeting to prepare for the discussion, which can be read at one's own pace and discretion.
Teachers may also register to earn 4 hours of CTLE credit through the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center at tinyurl.com/jjah3cw.
The program is co-hosted by the League of Women Voters of Albany County and Greater Capital Region Teacher Center.
